Stetsasonic Rare Flyers (Pair)
A pair of original 1980s concert flyers documenting early live performances by Stetsasonic, the Brooklyn collective whose ranks included a young Prince Paul, and whose pioneering use of live instrumentation alongside sampling helped earn them recognition as one of hip-hop's first true bands.
The first flyer promotes Super Jam (Part 1), held Saturday, January 31, 1987 at United Skates of America in Jackson Heights, Queens. Stetsasonic appeared as special guests on a bill headlined by Boogie Down Productions alongside Mikey D & The L.A. Posse and The Ultimate Choice, capturing a genuine cross-section of the New York hip-hop underground at a pivotal moment in the genre's development.
The second flyer, dated May 2, 1986, advertises a live Stetsasonic performance at the Sheraton Hotel in Middletown, New York. Hand-lettered and locally produced, it reflects the grassroots nature of hip-hop live performance before the genre's major-label package tours took hold.
Flyers of this kind were produced cheaply and in small runs for single performances, rarely kept and almost never preserved as a pair.
