Steve Mason (of The Beta Band) - King Biscuit Time Release & Production Archive
Documenting the production and release surrounding Steve Masonās King Biscuit Time project, this archive brings together a selection of production and release materials connected to āSingsā Nelly Foggits Blues In āMe and the Pharaohsā.
Created during the period between The Beta Bandās rise and Steve Masonās later solo work, King Biscuit Time offered an outlet for Masonās increasingly adventurous songwriting and studio experimentation. The project expanded upon many of the ideas that had defined The Beta Band while pushing further into psychedelic pop, folk, electronic textures and lo-fi production techniques.
At the centre of the collection is the 12ā Vinyl and CD EP releases, a reference CD-R featuring handwritten track information and a studio DAT safety copy retained during the production process.
The inclusion of multiple production and release formats provides a rare behind-the-scenes view of how independent releases were prepared, circulated and marketed during this era.Ā
A percentage of Chris Allison's proceeds from this collection will be donated to Restore The Music charity (restorethemusicuk.com), a social impact charity that addresses systemic inequality in music education by providing capital grants to state schools in areas of high socio-economic deprivation.
